Those Magical 60 Seconds

In the summer of 2020, my long time friend and musical amigo Peter Sharpe and I played a series of duo shows here in Boulder. Peter is a good friend, a great harmony singer, and an even better mandolin and tenor guitar player. We have the additional advantage of making music together on and off for two decades, and fall into sync with the greatest of ease.

During the first of these shows, as we played the title track from my 2012 album, “Golden Some Day,” I was literally moved to tears by the poignancy of Peter’s instrumental solo. He so viscerally captured the intended feeling of the song - at once hopeful and heartbreaking, optimistic and devastating. It was in that moment that I decided to make this new album “Sharpe & Dion,” featuring just the two of us. Two voices, two instruments, period. Very unlike any of my first three albums, which featured a handful of studio musicians to flesh out the sound.

My latest album comes out October 1st, and it features seven tracks - six new songs, and one re-record of the aforementioned “Golden Some Day.” This is the acoustic version, stripped down and perfect, just the way I had hoped. We recorded it live, and did very little editing or overdubbing. The result is up-close and personal, like you’re sitting in the living room with us while we pick and sing this tune. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we loved recording it. And tune into that 2:53 mark where Peter’s solo begins sixty seconds of musical splendor. The Indie Source magazine recently called this track “stunning,” and a “standout of the season.” I hope you agree.
